Annual birthday contest postponed to next year.

7 years, 7 months ago 34

Dear Enchanted Doll Fans,

Time has ran away from me again. :( I had my hands so full the last 6 months, that I didn’t notice my birthday creeping closer and closer. I very much regret to inform you that the 4th annual ED Birthday contest has been postponed to next year due to time constraints.

I apologize, since I know that like me, many have been looking forward to the contest. The Enchanted Doll book has taken a lot out of me, and combined with other commitments, I just couldn’t come up with a contest theme in time.

I am very pleased to say however, that the Enchanted Doll book is nearly all printed and bound, and should arrive here in about 2 weeks. Just in time for my birthday! We have started emailing those who purchased it with rates on shipping. If you haven’t received an email with shipping information, just hang on, as we will likely get to you soon.

In other news, I am working on a brand new doll for an upcoming (May) show at Strychnin gallery in Berlin, Germany. Stand by for more details. Right now I am nervously biting my nails while I wait to see if the crazy new head ornament I’ve spent over 150 hours designing and milling for it is going to work out. We shall see, we shall see…soon.

Представляю сколько будет огорченных комментариев по поводу куклы… Но главное,что мы увидим новую,урряяя!!!))))

  2. Merri says:

Oh, a brand new doll is exciting news! I so hope the head ornament works out for you. I’ll bet it’s just amazing – can’t wait to see!!
Marina, please hold a show in Australia soon!

  3. Alexandra says:

Strychnin gallery again, yay! I’m sooo looking forward to it! :)

  4. Jane Mossway says:

Wow. I’m can’t believe I spent the last month checking the website multiple times a day for contest updates. What a disappointment!

I don’t mean to sound too harsh, but it really seems that you have forgotten your fans.

Oh well… at least this means I don’t have to come back to the website for a long time.

  5. Orangey says:

Jane Mossway. We all did. The majority of us will still continue to check the site though, not just for the birthday contest.

The new doll and headpiece sound incredible, Marina. I’m sorry you were so bogged down by work to conduct the contest. Fingers crossed that your hard work will work out!

  6. Glynis says:

Well I like looking at the pretties with or without the birthday contest!! Sometimes I wonder where time goes, my nanna used to tell me to do one thing at a time and do it with all my heart and to the best of my ability soooo maybe that’s what Marina has decided to do, to concentrate on her first love. Dolls, dolls and dolls!!! I’m sure the headpiece will be amazing as per.

  7. Hazel says:

A new doll AND another show is always great news! :)

I don’t think you’re obliged to do a birthday contest every year. It’s a wonderful treat to your fans, but certainly not a responsibility. Just keep on creating beautiful things and most of us are satisfied! I look forward to next year’s contest.

And, of course, I’m excited to get my book! :D

  8. Bravo to you Marina, like I said in one of my post I rather you cancel then go crazy.

Sorry to say Jane, real fans of Marina check out her blog every day with or with out the birthday contest. That on its own is an extra treat strickly for the fans.

Having a Art book from Marina is so exciting. To follow a master in her trade is just awsome.

Can’t wait to see your new work of art…..

  9. Shadiera says:

Aw, my hear dropped to read that the contest has been postponed. I’ve been blabbering to anyone who would listen about how I can’t wait to enter.

But I guess this just gives me more time to work on my sketches and maybe do a new door painting inspired by your dolls!

I look forward to being mesmerized by your new doll <3

  10. Tiasdolls says:

Your birthday contests are truly a treat, not a requirement. You are an amazing artist and you continue to explore and find new ways to share your work with us. Thank you Marina.

How exciting that the book will be out near your birthday celebration. Looking forward to seeing what your creating next.

    Best wishes.

  11. Sarah Gupta says:

Glad to know I’m not the only one who loses track of time! :)

It’s a bummer about the contest, but I am still totally excited about the book! It will be a real “prize” in itself when I finally get it in the mail!

Hang in there Marina… don’t forget to take time to look at all the beauty you bring to the world!

  12. amira says:

Oh well, I guess I knew it deep down… it was getting a bit late.

Of course Marina isn’t obliged to run the birthday contest, and we are all infinitely grateful that she does it anyway, but I can’t help feel that she led us on a bit. I won’t hide that I’m disappointed, but at the same time I won’t go banging down on Marina’s door like she owes us a contest. I love Marina’s work and it’s certainly a good thing that she is kept busy. I can’t wait to see her latest doll and I’ll be checking back regularly for updates. It sounds amazing! Congratulations on the new show. Marina we love you, please don’t forget us!

  13. Glynis says:

Marina, not trying to teach you your business but -have you ever thought of a doll inspired by Geisha? I would have thought it would appeal to you, the beauty of the costume, the hiddeness(is that a word !?) of their world, the secrecy of their craft etc. Having seen the Chinese empress you did….. I went to Kyoto and they are like butterflies, just like your dolls. Keep well

  14. Maya says:

It really is a disappointment :(

As days passed by, I thought perhaps due to lack of time, this year there would be a draw (like the first year)… I didn’t think we would be told to wait for almost one month for nothing.

But hey, at least it was for a good cause; I’d even started thinking something could have happened to Marina. I can’t wait to see the new doll.

  15. Diana says:

I know that the Birthday-Contest is a gift from Marina and not a “must” but I can not help feeling disappointed as I have been working on three entries THE PAST SIX MONTHS in every free minute that I have! I could NEVER afford a doll from her so this contest is my only hope and waiting a year for the next is – well not impossible – but a little bit frustrating as I have put myself in a lot of stress. I am doing a job-education right now and put EVERY free minute into these entries the last six months!
Of course I could have thought about the possibility that it COULD be cancelled and it is all my fault but because it hasn’t happened till now I just haven’t thought about it…
I really don’t want to blame Marina or sound harsh I just want to pour my heart out a little bit because I am just so sad about it right now. So please no attacking me as I am already down enough…

  16. Amber says:

Happy Birthday, have another great year of making!

  17. Amber says:

This is total dreaming and speculation on my part, But I wish next year’s contest would be a doll making one, to add a level of difficulty and so all the whiny peoples would understand exactly what Marina goes through make her pieces.

Since it’s postponed this year it would be awesome if she could announce next years contest rules sometime this year and give people a year to make a doll. =o.O=
Challenge your fans you have a lot of talented people watching your every move. =^.^= at least the ones you post to us.

  18. KarolinFelix says:

    That’s a pity about the contest Marina, cause I had some super hard challenge prepared for you this year <;

If that’s the Valentines hairdo that took you 150 hours, know that what I had in mind this time was even tougher ^_^

But seriously, can’t wait for the new dolls to show up.. And this time maybe I will be so lucky to got o Berlin to finally see them in person. May… lovely time to visit Berlin! I so love continental summer!

  19. Merri says:

KaronlinFelix – You’ve got me intrigued, I’d really love to see your entry now! :))

  20. KarolinFelix says:

    Thanks Merri ^_^
Well, it will have to wait until next year… But I like to give challenges to people that love them & Marina surely appreciates a good one (:

  21. Aeroksana says:

Marina, I understand and accept your decision, because it would take an enormous amount of time – from the development of the rules of participation in the competition and ending with dismantling everything that will come from the participants, not to mention determining the winner! More and produce a doll for a prize. So know that your fans support you, do not be distracted by the new project, I think it will be interesting to dizzying!
ps when will the second edition of the book? I can not forgive myself that I missed the first order .. Marinochka, please do re-release of the book!

  22. Anastasia says:

Марина ,мы тебя любим несмотря ни на что!

  23. Eva says:

Is it possible to make a reservation for the second edition of your book, i don´t wanna miss it!

  24. cheryl says:

wah, can’t wait to see the new head ornament! and same as Eva, when will the second edition is available for reservation? i am trying to save as much as I can, so I could afford a dreamed doll one day!

  25. Isabel Pacheco says:

Dear:Marina, I understand you’re a great artist, and if this year could not make the birthday contest for reasons beyond their control is understandable. Can not really be judging a great artist who works as you,I admire the beauty that it is a great pleasure for me to see their beautiful dolls,I wish you the best of luck, and want to see your next creation of dolls, I would love to purchase after your beautiful book that is a dream for me. Excuse my translations.

  26. helvella says:

I’ve enjoyed the previous contests, but what I enjoy more is seeing new Enchanted Dolls, costumes, accessories. Hope to see some new blog posts soon!

  27. Amoreen says:

Could we know something more about the show at Strychnin Gallery? I wish I coulg go there in may!…

  28. Marta says:

Well I am not upset about the contest, but I was really looking forward to some new pictures of “the work in progress” or some new doll’s photos and there are still none.
    Heh :(

  29. Silvana says:

Hello Marina. Happy Birthday later!! I know you have a lot of work with yours dolls. Unfortunatly no this time for the birthay contest every was waiting. But is no problem, because you have no obligation for this. Now, about your new doll I´m waiting to see her. I´m exiciting about her!!!
    Have a good day!!!

  30. Eliza says:

Marina, you don’t owe your fans a birthday contest.

But you owe them the chance of purchasing your dolls.
What’s been disappointing me these last year was seeing posts about new jewelry, about shows, about the book, about squirrels, about new dresses etc… while the waiting list is dead.
Each of your fans dream of having an Enchanted Doll, some of them save money for years, but it’s pointless if the only dolls you produce are born for exhibitions and costs several tens of thousands dollars.

Of course you are free to do whatever you want with your talent, but maybe you should be clear to your fans and yourself and decide if you’d rather be an artist or a doll maker. So there won’t be a “temporarily closed, but email me” waiting list and your fans could set their mind on a rest and just be content of admiring your art instead of wishing and hoping for a new nude, basic doll line to buy.

  31. Glynis says:

Marina, I have to agree with the last comment,I know an artist has to keep pushing her boundaries,if indeed art can be confined to boundaries,it shouldn’t,but a chance to own one of your nude dolls is as much as most of us could hope for, most of us not being wealthy,I and some of my friends have a “doll fund” in the hope your lists will open again soon,as the lady in the last post said,to at least know would make it worth being patient for. Thank you for your time, which I know is finite. Best wishes.

  32. Orangey says:

Well I think most of Marina’s fans have already written off the waiting list seeing Marina’s extreme lack of time. All of her time goes into completing her costumed dolls, and I don’t see that changing. ;p

I hear you two about purchasing Enchanted Dolls, I have a feeling with these big projects Marina does, even dolls under 10,000 might become scarce. I hope not, though, I hope she takes time to put up a few ‘nude’ dolls for sale in the future, on eBay or at exhibitions, etc.

  33. Glynis says:

Orangey, I suspect you may have hit the nail on the head, sadly,I too really really hope there will be time in Marinas hectic timetable to find time for us,as most of us A: will never even be able to get to the exhibitions B: would most likely be well out bid on eBay, a set price can more easily be budgeted for. Ah well just have to wait and see and hope Marina finds some way to squeeze out some time for us!!
