Birthday Contest elimination round One – Top 20!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have the top 20 runners up in the 5th annual Enchanted Doll Birthday Contest!

First I’d like take a minute to thank all the participants for all your hard work regardless of whether you made this list or not. I really appreciate the thought, time, effort and sincerity that went into designing your entries. Choosing was hard. I made my selection based on a combination of your concept originality, aesthetic design, composition, supportive elements, artist statements and overall presentation.

The most important consideration point for me, was how much though went into adapting a tattoo design to the doll’s anatomy and joints. Some entries made the scale and body lines work to their advantage more successfully than others, which is a the very essence of a beautiful tattoo. I enjoyed looking at and reading about all your entries. Good luck next time to those who didn’t make this cut and congratulations to the runners up. I’ll see some of you in the next round tomorrow! Sleep tight ;)

And now, the top 20 entries! Click on a number and scroll to view each entry in full.

This is the line up! Thank you for beautiful entries and good luck in the next round!

(If you don’t see your entry in the galleries, please email us at The judging was done with the emails, not by the galleries, so its possible that we saw your entry but it didn’t get put on the gallery yet due to an error – Chad)

From the point of view of a graphic designer I find 92, 103, 129 and 204 the most interesting.
92 has a very interesting over all concept and with beautiful colors and a rich costume it would be a stunning doll.
103 is just like the other tattoos of the enchanted dolls are, beautiful but nothing really new.
129 is very interesting in the first picture with one open and one closed eye but the tattoo itself could have more concept and detail.
204 could refer to these old russian religious icons and with a costume of that time, with lot of gold and heavy layers of royal blue and purpur this doll would be a dream to come true.
    So I would say 92 and 204 have the most potential… ;)
    Liebe Grüße, Divena

Hello! If you view 129 in the gallery there is a description about the design which gives more clarity into the piece :)
It’s a very deep subject that I felt very strongly about.

I also come from the digital world (my entry was digitally painted) and funny enough we have the same favorites out of these finalists (92 and 204). Another favorite of mine, which appeals to my digital artist’s eye because of its clean lines and vivid colors, is #279.

  2. Hazel says:

Ooh, congratulations to the Top 20! I see some of my favorites in here.
Best of luck to everyone! I’m rooting for 103, 207 and 249.

    • Amal says:

Hazel, did you do the snake corset? I liked that idea a lot! :)

      • Hazel says:

Hello, Amal! Yes, that was my entry.
Thank you! I’m so pleased that you liked it! :D

You did 249 didn’t you? That was definitely an immediate favorite! I had a similar passing idea with hand tattoos but I couldn’t develop it into a story. You did it so beautifully and effortlessly!

    • Hazel says:

      Typo! I meant 217, not 207.

  3. Karla says:

I’m so happy! I got in the finalists!
And 2 of my favorites are there too!

    Congratulations to the finalists!

  4. Emily says:

Oh, yay! The Egg Timer made it in! I figured that one would, it’s definitely my favorite! I also really like the Yggdrasil design. I look forward to seeing which one is the lucky winner later! :) I’m just glad I got to participate for the first time, this was so much fun! I wonder what next year’s challenge will be.

  5. .Anova says:

An outstanding collection of finalists… I’m honored to be included here. I’m a silly though… I thought the “200 words limit” for the description meant “200 characters,” so my artist statement was woefully short, even though I wrote a longer version! Congrats to all who entered… I was delighted to see so much talent~!
