Cover Girl – Enchanted Doll on the cover of Cinder

So, I think it’s pretty cool that my doll Cinderella has been chosen to grace the Spanish language cover of the New York Times bestseller novel Cinder: The Lunar Chronicles, written by Marrissa Meyer.

I just don’t know which cover I love more, the original English version or the Spanish one, featuring my work. They are both so pretty. The publishers requested to use my work for this title a few months ago, but due to the chaos of releasing my own book, I totally forgot about this one until a fan had recognized the image on the cover in Barcelona and written me recently.

The novel is a futuristic fiction about a cyborg girl from New Beijing who struggles to overcome her circumstances and discover her purpose in life. Although I haven’t read it myself yet, it sounds like a pretty intriguing take on the traditional fairy tale. If any of you here have read this book already, I’d love to hear what you think about it.

I love the back cover too. I’m very pleased altogether.

Anyway, thought I’d share this little bit of news while I’m signing my own Enchanted Doll books and shipping them out. My wrist is so busted from the repetitive motion, that I now have to break up signing sessions into just a few dozen copies at a time and take long breaks. You will be receiving a confirmation email before your copy is mailed to you. If you haven’t received a confirmation yet, don’t panic, it just means your copy is still being prepared for shipping. Thanks for your patience everyone. You won’t be sorry.

    Wow, gorgeous cover.

Tho it seems that they photoshopped her bare leg to look more human. It no longer has joints.

One leg has joints and the other doesn’t- maybe because the book is about a cyborg struggling to be human. I wish the US version had Cinderella on the cover!

Wild! I hadn’t noticed the lack of joints in one
leg on the cover. Congratulations Marina it is a
    wonderful cover!

Congratulations! What a beautiful cover! I love how it shows off all the details of the Cinderella dress. I always tend to overlook the beautiful skirt because of her pretty face and the intricate corset.

Also, thank you for the update on the ED book! I’ve been worried but have been restraining myself from sending an email because I know it can’t be easy signing and shipping out 500 books even between the two of you! Take your time. I know any wait will be worth it!

I believe the Flawless show opens on May 11th.

For answer to your question regarding the books, kindly read the last paragraph of my post.

It seems that my posts are getting too long or too boring for reading. Sorry about that, guys. I’ll be less wordy next time ;)

    Hi, marina!

I’m from Spain, from a town called Valencia and I must say that I saw this book featuring Cinderella in a big shop,a few days ago; and I was very surprised,I wondered myself if you were aware of this cover or not…
    I haven’t read it but I thik I could buy it…!
    I love the cover too!

I love your dolls I saw them in a book at a tattoo shop here in kansas city. I really want one so bad but can not afford it right now. So I greatly enjoy looking at them. I think they are so beautiful and you have such a talent! :) I hope I can get the next book when its out!

Nice to see a pretty Cinderella on the cover! But for me leg with no joint looks a little strange and hypnotic. The back of the book simply lovely :-)

How perfect! I have a copy of Cinder sitting in my to-read pile at home, I guess I’ll just have to bump it to the top of the pile now. It will help me be patient about waiting for my ED book! :)

The cover with your Cinderella though is so perfect for a cyborg story and with your shoe on the back cover–and did they Photoshop the joints out of her shoe-less leg? That makes for interesting contrast.

the back cover is the best, looks like one can grab that shoe *grabby grabby* (and i want the pillows too!)

    and don’t write less!!

Wow, wow! That’s awesome, congratulations. Though I’m a bit torn, IF I were to purchase one, whether to get the Spanish copy or the English one. I’m Spanish myself but I’d understand the story a ton clearer if I read in English. Then again, it is the Cinderella cover that I’m interested in, haha. Spanish it is. Now where to find it..

    And no, don’t write less!

Please, Marina, take care of those precious hands! As someone who developed a bad RSI in one wrist throwing pots on a wheel, I totally know that it’s easier to prevent one of these injuries than to heal it. Nine years later, I’m mostly OK, although I get about one flare up a year, but I don’t make pots any more. If it means slower delivery of books, or shorter blog posts from you, so be it. Do not risk the hands!!

Write more not less, please! (But do take care of your wrist).

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is as original as it is based by Cinderella! The whole story has a nice pace and the writing is wonderful. The characters are not one dimensional and you don’t only feel for Cinder but think about Adri (the evil stepmother) and Pearl (the evil stepsister). The Prince (Prince Kia) of course is charming and the tale has a good flow to all the action scenes. The plot is alittle predictable but the way Marissa reaches toward those big plots is very well done. I give Cinder and 8 and can’t wait for the next book. This book is amazing for anyone who likes to see Once Upon A Time on ABC.

    Wow, congratulations!

And… your book arrived her a few days ago. It was like Christmas! Thank you so very much.

To those waiting on books, mine was #162, and I don’t live that far from Canada, so hang in there, they are on the way!

Seeing as Cinderella is one of my favorite of your dolls, I’m even more excited by this cover. I’ve seen Cinder at the Library a few times, now I need to pick it up..and buy the spanish edition just to have a little piece of Cindy closer to me ^_^.

Hi Marina, have you read The Girl With Glass Feet by Ali Shaw? Reading it, it made me think of you and I wondered if you’d like it and whether it would inspire you.

I saw this cover on Marissa’s facebook page and was really excited to see your cinderella on there!
I’ve been watching your work for a few years now. I am a ceramic artist as well and I’ve never seen them as just dolls, they are so beautifully crafted down to every detail and the accessories are works in their own right. Your technique is really amazing! Anyone who just sees a doll is crazy. haha

I read Cinder, and really enjoyed it, for a first book, it’s very well done. I’m excited for the future books. I hope they consider using your work again for the covers.
