China-painting Madame de Pompadour doll – 12 firings and counting!

This doll is some piece of work….and not in the most positive way right now. She’s been trying my skills and pushing the outer boundaries of my patience. Some dolls are ‘born’ easily from my hand, almost effortlessly sometimes – but not this one. This one’s been challenging me on almost daily basis, daring me to be better and to evolve past my comfortable place.

At least once a week I have to fight down a strong urge to hurl it out of my window, and cackle maniacally as I watch it shatter on the pavement below. In fact, I kinda feel this way right now, so I’m taking a little time-out from work for some complaining therapy.

Feeling better already.

if you throw her out the window, i think you’ll break a lot of hearts on this blog.
though i think with every new frustration that tries your sanity, there is the incredible pleasure once you’re finally done with whatever new project you’re working at. you wouldn’t do it otherwise. i’ve never met an artist who doesn’t suffer in some way with a really great piece. but, you know, we are all supporting and cheering you on.

she’s gonna be stunning beyond words, like all your masterpieces. so, please don’t act on the urge to throw her out the window!

Please do let me know if your about to throw her out the window. But please give me time to fly across Canada and take place under your window! Never was good in catch! But would give it a chance. Magnificent Marina

Dear Marina, she is going to be great… and remembering the struggles you overcame, you will get even more pleasure and pride at her completion. Just remember to take a break now and then, rest your eyes and hands, and have a nice cup of tea…with extra sugar in it! We are all cheering for you.

I only wish I could see her in person! Because it’s only when you see these dolls in real life, you realize just how tiny everything is! I remember asking for a really elaborate ring for my doll Dove and being told that it was not possible. I really didn’t understand until I saw her! The rings were gorgeous but so much tiny then I realized! I then understood why I couldn’t have tiny pearls around the stone of her ring! Though maybe now, with this magnification it could be possible!

With the tiny scale of the detail work on these pieces, I’m surprised more dolly-cide doesn’t occur.
Cannot wait to see Madame P. in all of her finery when she is completed, Marina.
