"Rusalka" an Enchanted Kouklita by Andrew
Materials: Cotton, watercolour, ink, polyfil, and swarovski
Rusalka is part of my line of fashion rag dolls, The Kouklitas, she is hand sewn and stuffed with a sense of ink linework mimicking the jointing of an Enchanted Doll. Rusalka stands 27" tall and is embellished with swarovski crystals "screws" and an embroidered applique "tattoo" I developed at my last job working as an assistant designer. Her face is inspired by Lily. She also models my first attempt at the ultimate rag doll accessory, a yarn wig using the thick plush strands of - you guessed it - a mop.
I know making a doll for another doll artist would be a risky choice, but it comes as a gesture of unity and a study of opposites. Where an Enchanted Doll is timelss in her beauty, a Kouklita's is fleeting; a rag doll being truly lucky if she lasts 5+ years.
And yet - both dolls are created with the same intention, play. I hope you enjoy my homage. Consider her an Enchanted Doll who can crash on your couch or act as a pillow and pincushion.
