Birth of Enchantment by GSN
There are so many things to like in the Enchanted Dolls, the level of detail is astonishing, the concepts are spectacular, and I love the way your dolls evolve with new elements while remaining true to their essence. In any case, the thing I admire most is your craftsmanship. In a world that relies more and more in digital solutions, where an 'undo' or 'close up' function are commonly used, it is refreshing to see somebody still using her hands and talent to create something. And I do love digital art, but there's something magical and inspiring in physically working on something, touching it, smelling it....Especially when every mistake means either finding a creative solution or starting from scratch again.
So it was clear to me that I had to make something using a traditional medium. I chose inks because their transparency reminds me of the fragility of porcelain. Inks come in small and delicate containers, and they force a higher level of detail than watercolour. Ink is so very unforgiving, which, I assume, is also what it must feel like to work with porcelain.
I wanted her to have a classic feel, Botticelli-like, but at the same time to have the dark quality most of your dolls have, which I tried to reflect letting the ink bleed a little more than usual.
Even though I was dying to paint one of your very intricate dresses, I finally decided to paint her naked, because as wonderful and detailed your costumes are, I feel the main focus is always the doll.
I hope you like it and thanks again for the inspiration
