Derew - The Tree Nymph by Gretchen

Derew is one of the Daphnaie nymphs, they lived in, and grew from, trees like cherry or fig. Daphnaie nymphs are daughters the nymph Daphne, she began as a woman, being sexually pursued by a man she did not love. Once while he chased her she called to the goddess Gaia. Gaia took pity on the girl and made her blend or turn into a laurel tree. The Daphnaie nymphs live in woods or groves sometimes sacred gardens, giving life to the fruits on their trees. Derew and her many sisters sing and dance, living for thousands of years, dying only when their tree dies. The tree nymphs are called Dryads coming from the Indo-European root Derew, meaning tree or wood.
