Enchanted Doll Book – SOLD OUT!

ed-book2

I am both delighted and a bit surprised to announce that the entire first edition of the Enchanted Doll art book has sold out before it even went to print!

Now that the manuscript is at the printer’s, it feels strange to not be working on it, as it has consumed most of my time for the past several months. I was so committed to it, that I actually felt a little bit lost on the first day after it was done. I was walking around my house and thinking that I should be typing something.

And now, after all that time being frustrated and pulling my hair out and swearing to never write/design/publish another book ever again, I feel strangely compelled to  make another book. This time, a fairy tale of some kind. Yup, I’m definitely making another book. I have decided.

I think I will need to take a break from authoring books for a few months, though (it’s exhausting), and make some dolls! Yea-Yeah! And plan some shows! And do other things! And possibly travel a little bit! I am getting a cabin fever after 4 months in the studio….I’m thinking, South America and the Himalayas…ok, my mouth is running away with me here…it’s just too excited.

In the meantime, stand by for the announcement of the upcoming, 4th annual Enchanted Doll birthday contest.

  3. Annarchy says:

Oh no! I literally just got the money to order my book and came here to see “Sold Out.” ;_; Bad for me, but great for you!

Will there ever be another edition for those of us who were too slow? Or is it possible there will be a few extra copies if anyone cancels?

  4. Marina says:

I’m sorry to hear that you just missed the book!
When the books arrive, I will make another announcement here and if extra copies become available, I will make sure to post that information.

Seeing how I’m still getting requests for the book, I’m considering expediting the printing of the second edition.

  5. Hazel says:

Congratulations! I knew it would be a hit! :D

And yay for more dolls and a well-deserved vacation! Take your time with that next book (i.e. don’t churn them out too fast else my bank account is going to suffer from deprivation.)

I’ll say it again- CONGRATULATIONS! Unfortunately I couldn’t be numbered among the 500 but my wallet did a crash and burn recently, haha. However I will definitely be ordering a book whenever a second edition comes around.

It’s always interesting and inspiring to hear about your experience with your work by the way, and I hope you make it to South America. While you’re there, make a “quick detour” to tropical Costa Rica. My birthplace.

Birthday contest, excuse me while I find a paper bag to blow into!

  25. Clare says:

Congratulations! I’m very happy to have been in time to place an order. In reference to a negative comment from a previous thread I’d like to say that you are one of the most generous artists I follow. From the wealth of high quality ED diffusion pieces you create at varying prices-to a blog full of insights into your creative process. Generous is the word that springs to mind, courageous a close second.

  26. Annina says:

to the people who missed this edition, when you click the book in the upper right corner you come to this page:
    http://www.enchanteddoll.com/book/book.html
    and it says there:

The first edition of the book has sold out and is currently not available. An announcement will be made on the blog when subsequent editions will be available.

  27. lily says:

Congratulation, Marina! You’re such an incredibly talented artist, your creations are just breath-taking, stunning, your dolls are alive!.. And i’m not even beginning with accessories, visiting your website was like a walk in Wonderland, filled with sexy, innocent Princesses.. I bow to your exceptional skills and mind, you are the meaning of the word Artist!

Wish you the very best, the whole world needs to get to know you and you’re up to it!

    With admiration,

    Lily

  28. Sara says:

Will there ever be a second edition of the book?

  29. Sabrina says:

Marina says there will be- I’m sure it will sell out too! The preview pics are lovely.

  30. Ron says:

    Congratulations on your sell-out!

  31. MissLK says:

    Congrats, Marina and Chad!!!

I love books and will wait patiently for my copy(signed in blood, maybe?). This book will be like a secret garden of EDs where I can escape to reverie.

Hope to see my girls in the book, too :)

  32. Andromeda says:

So it is official… I find out about everything late! I would happily have paid $100 for this book and the day I find out about it I also find out that is sold out! *cries* I will just have to wait for the 2nd edition run… any idea when that will be? And if I meet you somewhere will you sign it for me? I am a minimum wage employee but I pay $100 and up per textbook for school, a book about something I love is well worth it. Signed too… *cries more* I thought I was on the mailing list. Signing up again! I won’t miss out next time!

  33. I have to thank both Marina and Chad for this beautiful book – but most of all my dear sweet friends on the forum who decided I deserved a copy, as I thought I was going to miss out on the first edition too. I was blown away when I found out my lovely conspirators had ordered me a copy. The perfect present :-} kisses…..

  34. Sarah Gupta says:

Yay! I’m so excited about the book! I feel very lucky that I got one… I think I was just about number 500 :)

And I can’t WAIT to find out details about the birthday contest!!

  35. Andrea Roe says:

Congratulations! Sadly, I was one of the many who missed out on this opportunity. Life happens, cash evaporates. I am looking forward to the second edition.

  36. MigMig says:

Congratulations, Marina! You were probably the only person surprised by the sellout :o) The power of your art holds many of us enthralled and a book documenting your artistic journey is the second best thing after owning one of your dolls. No wonder 500 books walk out through the virtual door even before being printed.
I hope to spend many evenings reading and perusing The Book while curled on a sofa next to a woodheater…

  37. Marina, please come back. You have us hanging with so many thoughts in our minds…..the new mold who is she.The birthday contest……what are the new rules….and thats besides all the things you are keeping from us….

    Please tell us something……..anything

    :)

  38. Cjoy says:

Personally, I’d love to see a digital edition as well, to take along with me on my iPad–if that would possibly be an option in the future? :)

  40. Isabel Pacheco says:

Happy happy valentines day, blessings to you and yours Marina :)

  41. Amal says:

As Kate Winslet says in Titanic: “…Come back… come back…” *blows whistle*

  42. Annina says:

    hehe Amal, love that ;)

  43. hehehe Amal if you have one, can you blow your whistle. I keep asking her to come back and she won’t. Do you suppose she left on vacation and left us hanging……….na she would’nt do that…would she…..
    :(

  44. Sabrina says:

I think the iPad version is a brilliant idea!

  45. Annina says:

nah Christiane, she’s just busy i’m sure!
hmm how could we entice her?

    Diana

  47. KatyBelle says:

I’M SO EXCITED FOR THE BIRTHDAY CONTEST!! I don’t have the time or emotional wherewithal to compete myself, but I love seeing all the other entries!

  48. amira says:

I can’t wait for the birthday contest! I hope I can participate this year… last year’s prompt just had me stumped. I wonder what kind of doll the prize would be… Wouldn’t it be the best if it could be a custom doll for the winner?

  49. Eva says:

Oooh, SOLD OUT! I wanted a copy! I arrived late…

Hope that you make a second edition soon. I love your work.

    Congrats!

  50. swdolls says:

Just curious. When are you going to announce the birthday contest info?

  51. Having some remorse on wanting to hear about the birthday contest. Marina you have so much going on at the same time. Many deadlines to meet.

I feel it important to say, we your fans will still be in your face even if there is no birthday contest for this year. Just having the book to look forward to is exciting. I would rather you be in top shape than running crazy trying to make ends meet.

You could put it off for another year. Im having an upset stomach for you. Just my thought…….
    :)

  52. Sunflower says:

I hope you come out with a second edition! I would definitely buy it, since I missed out on the first edition. Congrats– I’m thrilled that it was such a success!

  53. Sarah Gupta says:

Still super excited about the birthday contest announcement!

    Can’t wait!

  54. Ru says:

Would it be possible for you to come visit London and drop in on the ceramic design students at Central St Martins school of art and design?

I would love to ask you some questions, I think your work is beautiful and an amazing example of contemporary ceramics and mixed media.

  55. Carie says:

От всего сердца всего Вам самого наилучшего, творческих успехов и простого человеческого счастья!

  68. Your work is absolutely incredible!

    Best Wishes

  69. beenoise says:

    Marina,
Can you please explain why you would create bound feet for your beautiful dolls? They were a completely deliberate, torturous custom where the recipient had no choice (bound feet began at 3-4 yrs old). They were a sign of female subservience (girls could hardly move on bound feet) and a method of drastically altering the female body to be “more alluring” for men. Why would you want to promote this image? It is akin to forced plastic surgery or forced corset wearing on a child’s body! The pain was overwhelming and life-long, and the health risks extreme.

  70. Adora says:

@beenoise…. I hardly think she’s promoting it! Featuring something in art is hardly promotion, and pray who is going to rush out to have their feet (or their child’s) bound as a result of seeing the image? I think the theme is perfectly suitable for Marina’s art… the image of woman as doll or plaything, twisted out of shape for the delight of others…

Anyways, I didn’t hear about the book till now :( Hope I can get one of the second print run!!!

  71. beenoise says:

    @Adora
I was not commenting on the effect that these bound feet would have on the decision making skills of parents today, I was wondering at the ramifications of idolizing a highly questionable custom that is acutely culturally significant.
