New Doll for an upcoming show at Strychnin Gallery!

This is a concept drawing for a new doll I’m currently working on. It’s been in the works for almost 4 months and I’m very excited about it. This piece is for an upcoming show ‘Kingdoms of Twilight and Magic’, which opens at Strychnin Gallery in Berlin on May 10th. In just about a month from now.

And this is a partial 3D model of the cone headdress. It’s still being programmed into the CNC machine for carving, and I’m a little apprehensive about how it will turn out. The reason I had decided to use a CNC carver for this, instead of hand carving it myself, was the amount of minute scrolling details, which I did not think I could carve very well.

Next week this cone will (hopefully) be ready for the moulding stage, then casting…and then I can show you the whole doll. Quickly cross your fingers for me, and will this cone to come out ok. Thank you.

The model is quite different from the drawing? The drawing is spectacular – I hope it translates well through the cnc process…

Exquisite! Crossing fingers for you, although I am certain you’ll succeed.
Will she be a fairy? What body type will you choose? Looking forward to the unveiling of this new enchantress.

Wow, the unveiling of a new doll is always so exciting!! I love this sketch. Her face looks beautiful and the hairstyle with pearls is gorgeous. I have no doubts that the headdress will be exquisite….they always are! :)

This is an amazing drawing, the detail is stunning. Fingers are crossed…though I doubt you need worry. I always think of your dolls as the Faberge eggs of our day.

  13. Good luck Marina! I just know that this will be a hit! Another gorgeous creation! I love Berlin. I was there last year just before Christmas.

are they going to vary the Z height for parts of it? I know through ArtCam it’s possible to do some sculpting, to make it look slightly hand made, or place a bit of variety. Your drawing is so beautifully done, I just hope they can capture the same feel of it.

  15. Marina says:

I usually do quite a bit of additional hand carving and detailing on all my CNC models. It adds that unmistakable organic texture to the piece.

  16. Your original drawing is exquisite. Marina you are a machine, your mind never stops… She is going to be spectacular… every thing I can cross…is

You never stop to surprise us!!!! I loooove muses, fairies and magic and this year’s theme of Strychnin Gallery is “fabulous” in all meaning of this word. I’m sure your doll will be the most beautiful over there. I’m sooo curious and anxious to see her finished. I cross my hands’ and feet fingers for you even though I’m 1 million per cent sure that the final result will simply ENCHANT all of us. …I love the air style too :-)

i like that comment about ED being the Faberje Eggs of our time. i saw the Fabrege collection at the art museum downtown where i live and the pieces were breathtaking. its definatly a good comparison, the detail you put into your dolls is as precise as the details in the Fabrege eggs and all the little odds and ends that were also made. it would be so cool if even one of your dolls ended up in an art museum someday. she would definatly have a deserving place in one. all of them would.

You can do it always Marina! Looking forward how it turns out!

  21. Annina says:

    everything is crossed for you!
wow, i’m in love with the drawing (imagine a smiley with hearts as eyes here)

I love it when you do a show, so many pretty things to look at! The economy benefits too as lottery ticket sales in my area go way up.

The cone headdress is wonderful and I am positive it will turn out just beautifully.

  23. ¡Es precioso, Marina! Seguro que queda perfecto, así que no te preocupes. ¡Cómo me gustaría aprender a hacer cosas como estas!. Bezozzzzzzz.

  24. Will you and Chad be attending the exhibition in person??

I’ve been thwarted each time you’ve been in a country near me… it would be my luck the day I leave London will be the day of your next show here :-P
