Procrastination and Inspiration

Both of my kilns broke down last month, and to procrastinate the repairs I took up a shelved project that I’ve struggled with for a couple of years.

It’s like, when you need to study for a chemistry midterm tomorrow, but suddenly the bedroom is so messy that it needs an emergency spring cleaning. Can’t study in a messy bedroom! That’s how I feel about kiln repairs.

Anyway, this doll inspired me again. Now, after a long time away from it I finally know what it needs and how to finish it! I’ve been reworking the composition of her head dress and her veil, but now I find that I’m not satisfied with her face painting and probably need to take her apart and add a few more layers. Which means… I have to do those kiln repairs… Damn it.

She’ll be available for sale in Fall 2017.

Oh this is the very large girl, isn’t it? She’s very lovely. That headdress is amazing! I wish you could give a class in lost wax casting- for dolls! :D

Sorry to hear about your kilns. So pricey…

Happy about this new update. When I read that you wanted a repaint, I saw the doll and thought it was already repainted because of the details of the eyes I didn’t noticed before, or maybe it looks different because of the close up shot, still the close up shot with the composition feels different, it transmits something, hope I can be as good as you to transmit feelings with my artwork.

    Hope the repair goes excelent.

Best wishes Marina, miss your work.

i remember that headdress, its like the one on the Princess and the Toad. but you added tassels, how cool.
good luck with the kiln repairs, always sucks when one of the main components of your work is what’s keeping you from working. hope it goes fast and painless so you can get going on this beauty.

I wish I was there to help you. That is one thing I actually know how to do pretty well…repair kilns. I have replaced elements, timers and other parts over the years. I have a small one but used to help a local artist with hers that were huge. I will gladly pack up my little (unused ever) kiln and ship it to you in Canada. It would be my honor. All you have to do is ask.

Will she be this year’s auction???
