This collar is another project in progress. I’ve been working on it on and off for a couple of months, but i’m not sure as off yet what exactly i’m going to do with it. Mermaid Song is modeling it for now, but i haven’t decided what doll i’m going to make for it. I have a few ideas, but they are just ideas at this point. It’s cast in non-tarnishing sterling silver and has a hinge on the back and the front for easy removal. I’m not sure if it’s finished yet either as i might add some stones to it later on. I’m thinking of making several copies of it to try it in several different applications for fun. We’ll see what happens.

The collar looks great but I must admit I am more intrigued by the hair jewellery- I just love those pieces and Mermaid Song looks stunning in them. Would they be for sale as well?

I love how the collar brings fairy tales to mind. I think of Pushkin… :)

The collar is really pretty! I think it’s a great idea! Did you make it with the “lost wax” technique?

I think the hair ornaments are bali silver beads.

I was thinking the hair ornaments are bali beads- bead caps in particular- as well. I was guessing lost wax as well. I wish we could see the hinge joint better? Very lovely and an exquisite collar. I love how organic it looks- like branching coral.

Yup, the hair ornaments are Bali Findings for bead work. I stuck them on her head in an attempt to get her hair out of the collar for the shot and they turned out to be the best-looking option. I might use them in a project down the road, but they are no the most practical things to wear, especially if the doll has long hair. There is just no way it’s all going to fit in there. The best type of hair for the ornaments is silk fiber because it’s very fine and can compress to fit in the caps. I got them to stay on with several sewing needles and it wasn’t easy. A different solution is needed for a long term use. Needles are also a safety hazard.

The hair styled this way truly caught my eye. In particular I like the way her fringe is cut around her face. It is a very modern and edgy look. The collar is lovely and I look forward to seeing it from different angles. I can see that it is slightly curved over the shoulders and I am wondering if it was hard to select the perfect balance of curve to look fluid in many different poses. If it was perfectly fitted to her body, it may only lay against her “skin” in certain angled poses. On the other hand, if it is not close to her skin, it would look awkward.

should make her some cloth bon bons :)
