The hands of Gloriana – My new large, porcealain Doll!

parts 3

I’ve had many ‘firsts’ these past couple of months, experiencing processes that are familiar to me, yet never tried before (by me) on this scale: First large molding (which was kinda horrible), first time casting large parts (which was awful), first time firing them (not so bad), first time cleaning ( a little weird)  and first time painting them (just what I expected).

I’ve still got one more ‘First’ left to do tomorrow: Assembly – the moment of truth.

If it works, this doll will be premiered this weekend, at the Spectrum Live convention in Kansas City. Well, I’m already committed to going, so I’ll be taking her there with me either whole or in pieces. I hope she’s whole.

Come and see her!

Just amazing! They are delicately beautiful. Lovely shape. You’ve managed to blush her perfectly!

Marina, you remind me of Pygmalion creating Galatea or in this case, Gloriana. not that I confuse the meaning of the myth or its whole as what you’re doing, just that’s what this reminds me of, maybe because its a larger doll you’re creating, it reminds me of creating the sculpture of the most beautiful of woman. I don’t know, maybe there’s no comparison, probably not. its just what I keep thinking of as you create her, and I mean it in the best way. I’m sure she’ll be breathtaking, as all your art is.

Ohhh My GOD!!!! Marina the amount of detail your not able to capture is incredible!!! I was always blown away by the amount of detail your tiny Enchanted darlings’ hands always have, but this… This pair of hands look like they can belong to a human being!! Just incredible!! I can not wait to see this girl all together. I wish you all the luck in the world in assembling her. She will be sublime I am sure<3

Marina I didn’t know you were going to be in Kansas City!!! Was there a Twitter alert I missed?…. I don’t know how I’m going to swing it, but come hell or high water I am going to be there this weekend!!! It’s a little far from NYC, but I’ll make it happen some how.

No Anthony, you didn’t miss any alerts. There was some uncertainty as to my attendance until fairly recently, but now that I do, you will get lots of them, including a own blog post!

I’m not bringing anything to sell this time. I’ll just be unveiling this big doll and two (small) others.
