Upcoming Exhibition in London

This New Year for Enchanted Doll begins with a group exhibition at the ShowStudio gallery in London UK, titled To Bed.

I’m contributing one doll to this show, which will include photography and video installations by various artists, including Andy Warhol’s Sleep. I don’t have the full list of participating artists yet, but I’ll be posting more information about this exhibition. The show opens on January 26th.

Above, is a snap shot of the new wax model for the show doll. She is in the last stages of completion, and I plan to finish her by the middle of next week. This piece, titled Twenty To Midnight is a nude, featuring a monochrome, one of a kind tattoo on her torso and thighs, the new Marie-Antoinette shoes and of course this fabulous, new ultra-limited edition head dress with one of a kind accents. I already have it cast and everything. Can’t wait to show you.

I will post purchasing details next week, after I send her on her way and get some down time. In the meantime, I think I’ll post a concept sketch for her tattoo in a day or two; as soon as I get around to scanning it.

For those who are not acquainted with this doll face yet, she is my wax-modeling head and not the doll which will be featured in this show. That one will be much better.

Oooh, a metal wig headpiece, brilliant! Your modeling head is a beauty also, although I cannot wait to see this headpiece’s real owner!

  3. Crystal says:

God it’s hard to believe the real doll will be prettier then your wax modeling head! Anyway this headpiece is fantastic!

  4. That is so intense… that headdress is so intense, I think it’s the most intricate piece I’ve seen you carve… far out I can’t wait to see it done…. it’s unbelievable!

  5. Hazel says:

Ohmigod! WIP photos always make me stoked! I can’t wait to see the real doll!

  6. Marina says:

Intense? Wow, thanks Monika; That’s the best compliment I’ve heard all year.

Carving it was a pretty intense experience. It was indeed the most intricate wax model I’ve done up to date, but not the hardest one. Now, the Deep sea diving helmet on the other hand…that was a tough cookie. It had 5 hinging parts, a combination of organic and geometric shapes, the symmetry, as well as several other interlinking factors to consider, while the rococo wig was all organic, free-hand carving, mostly.

However, I think that without the experience of having made the much more difficult Deep Sea Diving helmet, I would have struggled to construct and successfully optimize the Rococo wig for molding.

My only regret was not being able to make a bigger and grander wig because of the weight limitations.

    I love extravagant things.

  15. Kelly says:

Wow, that’s crazy! I love it! I love sculpting hair, so this piece makes my fingers itch a little to go sculpt something.

Marina, I was thinking that it would be really interesting to know more of your opinion and experiences on creativity – as it relates to education and childhood experiences. Was your creativity nurtured ( or stifled) at school and at home? I remember you saying your grandfather (?) let you use his materials to make a doll once. Were you allowed to paint on the walls if you wanted? You such a truly creative person, and it would be fascinating to hear more!
