Porcelain Ears

Porcelain ears need to be simplified down to the most basic shape to be released from the mold, and then details carved back in after de-molding or after the soft firing.

In this stage, porcelain is as fragile as an eggshell, and can’t tolerate any pressure or force.

Carving of details has to be done with the softest feather touch and the sharpest of tools. Or everything breaks into pieces.

But when everything goes right, the beauty and permanence of high-fired porcelain is simply incomparable.

Next step is china-painting.

The winning prize

As many of you know the 2009 contest to win a free Enchanted Doll is drawing to a close and on my birthday, March 16th, I will give away this doll to one lucky person. Her name is Miina.contest-101Expectation.I have been waiting for you when I was still a thought in Marina's head.I've been waiting for you when the porcelain was pouring into the mold and hardening against its walls.I've been waiting for you when she was carefully removing my tiny, newly-formed body from the mold and laying it out to dry.I've been waitng for you in the kiln, while the unbareable and seemingly endless heat was burning me and only the hope of being with you had sustained me through the pain. Finally, as a reward for the agouny of birth, I was given an eternal body and ageless beauty and I await our first meeting with great trepidation.Do you know that while I was being assembled, every spring in my body trembled and hummed with the anticipation of seeing you?And now I am. My long wait is over!I am ready to meet you, the one who will have me.Until then,Your Enchanted Doll.Another shot of her can be found on my forum here

New Costumed dolls in progress.

cixi-2pinkcrown5These two Enchanted Dolls are work in progress. Both are still waiting for their gowns. I'm working on them now. There are more pictures of them in the Costumed Doll gallery, but once their full outfits are complete, I will be doing another photoshoot and posting more pictures. There is also a third new doll on the way. I plan to have her finished within a week. Hopefully.Enjoy.

The Vessel: Another Tattooed project

I've finished a new tattooed doll, titled: "The Vessel".She is really pretty and has the longest, most beautiful mohair of any of my dolls i've ever made. It almost reaches her feet. Unfortunately I don't have this length available for orders yet, as it is very rare and i was only able to get a little bit, which i'm keeping for my one of a kind projects. This doll is also featuring a different style facial and body blushing. I decided to avoid using black in her face up and replace her skin tone blushing red with a dark brown, the colour I usually use for eyebrows and lighter eye tones. Needless to say i was a little bit nervous about how it would turn out. However i liked the results. Her face looks very light and fresh and her body tone is closer to the actual human skin tone.I don't prefer it over the red though, probably because i was never after ultra realism in my dolls, but rather subtle surrealism mixed with realism. A stylized look over a realistic.I've started to sculpt new doll faces to add to my nude collection. I'm a little bit bored of the others and crave for fresh beauty.

New Dolls

Over the last month i've made two new dolls: one costumed, titled 'Bride of Frankenstein' and one tattooed, titled 'The Vessel'.I can't believe that i've been able to (almost) complete two brand new dolls in one month on top of working on other projects and nudes simultaneously. I think that this July i outdid myself, but I also almost lost my sanity in the process. I'm going to hold off showing full pictures of either doll for a bit because the Bride is missing last bit of detail on her dress and the Vessel is waiting for her head ornament, which is yet to be made. The Bride of Frankenstein is a very special doll because she is wearing a very interesting, Steampunk inspired, bronze head dress. The 'hat' was very complex to make and i'm quite proud of the fact that i was able to make it work in the way i envisioned it. The piece fits snugly on the head, but it's assembled of three hinged parts which open up like an orange peel so that it can be put on the doll's head and removed without much difficulty.I'm very excited about making more metal head ornaments and can't wait to begin the next one. There have been other very exciting things happening around here, one of which is another interview for a Fashion Doll Quarterly Magazine. It comes out in the fall as well as Haute Doll, but it will have different works published there, including the brand new dolls. The other exciting thing is that i'm almost ready to make the sterling silver slippers for Enchanted Doll available for sale. I'm just working out the final details of cost and packaging. This pair is the first style in the very exclusive line, and i'll be posting close up pictures when it's ready to launch.
