Peacock tattoo on Enchanted Doll

This is something new I had made recently for a custom order. I really like this one. Next time i’m trying a full color, bigger peacock on the front of the doll. Although it was very challenging, it was still easier than I expected it would be. I must be getting better at this.

Now that I think about it, I might be ready for human skin. Who wants one? I’m sure I can figure it out as I go. Can’t be that hard.

Another angle at this tattoo can be found in the new Tattooed Dolls gallery, by the way.

Ooo, peacocks are my favorite animal, and this one is magnificent. Love that expression in his eye! Seeing this tattoo makes me wish you could sell prints of your paintings too.

I find it so interesting to see what people ask for in their custom tattoo dolls. It makes me wonder the reasons for that particular picture on that particular doll.
I think a gallery of all the custom dolls would be a fun thing so you can see what eye, hair, jewelry and special added twists people ask for.

I recognize, when she moves her leg, peacok wing also moves and shows other face.

The feathers look so amazingly detailed that it almost hurt my eyes.

One rather silly question but did you, Marina, start to put the peacock directly on to the doll or did you make some kind of guide lines before you started colouring it? You seem to be so sure on all the tattoos you’ve done.

I loosely sketch my design directly onto the doll’s body and then engrave it with a needle in very small increments to create grooves in porcelain that will trap paint at a later stage in the process. So my engraving is the final sketch, so to speak, which later gets colored in with China.

And let me tell ya, it’s pretty tricky sketching with a needle because it’s very difficult to see what lines you’re actually creating on the blank surface. The design is almost invisible until it gets filled in with paint.

It kind of looks like the peacock’s shadow is being thrown against the girl’s skin, adding to the beautiful richness and depth.

That is absolutely stunning!! And I do love the positioning, and that when she moves her leg it won’t affect the bird, just his tail feathers!
The detail in this piece is really gorgeous, there’s a lot of depth and variations in all the tones.

Ps. Guys, as long as you don’t ask Marina to use the same technique to tattoo your skins that she uses for the dolls, ouch!! : P
