The Hybrid Beetle Crown

I made this guy as an experiment. My lovely Arum is modeling it. This Silver rhino beetle has 8 legs, assembled from 3 different beetle species. The articulated vertebrae tail is detachable. It actually belongs to another project of mine, but I attached it to the bug out of curiosity and loved the look of it. Because, why not?

It’s incredibly beautiful! I think it’s my favourite headdress so far! I love how the beetle contrast with the more feminine and delicate curves of the piece. It reminds me a bit of Alexander McQueen’s aesthetic.

Beautiful. Who would think a beetle could look so gorgeous and elegant and still very ‘bug-ish’ all at the same time? True art. I love it! I love all of the detail and sharp look about it (yes I thought of Alexander McQueen for a moment also). Thanks for
    the pictures!

Very impressive, this crown is an art all to itself! It’s fantastic atop her head, amazing how it frames her face, kind of this strong heavy presence about her, makes one wonder of her story. Bravo!

Your last 4 or 5 blog entries just appeared all at once. I thought maybe you were on vacation but they span almost a month. I checked the site once or twice a week during that time but their were no updates. Perhaps there was a problem with your site and that would explain why some people were worried about your absence. Regards.

a – Sometimes the ‘recent blog post’ heading on the home page isn’t up to date. It’s always best to check the blog itself, just in case. :)

i’ve noticed that the ‘recent blog post’ on the front page isn’t always up-to-date (some sort of posting lag?), but when i click the ‘blog’ link everything is current.

also, it’s always up-to-date in google reader.

That is freaking stunning! Now, I wouldn’t want to run across that creature in real life… but it’s amazing how something so potentially scary can be made beautiful! There’s something about the proportions and braid-like look of the tail that really make this work.
